Back by popular demand after sell-out on July 10, this joyous, toe-tapping, moving celebration of Woody Guthrie’s words, music and spirit creates a biographical and musical portrait of a legendary folk musician and social commentator. Broadway veteran David Lutken as Woody, actor/director Nick Corley and musicians Darcie Deauville, Andy Tiersten, and Helen Russell come together in a must-see performance of twin fiddles, guitars, bass, harmonica, banjo, mandolin, dulcimer, dobro and beautiful folk harmonies to give voice to the spirit of this immortal American troubadour, just as he gave voice to the beauty and struggles of the common people. Woody Sez recently won the Argus Angel Award.

JAZZ: Anat Fort Trio
Israeli rising star Anat Fort brings her piano trio for their 10th year celebration and CD release preview of her second album for ECM Records. In the past decade, they have performed in the United States, Canada, Europe and Israel, including at the JVC jazz festival, Montreal Jazz Festival, Tel Aviv Opera House, and Symphony Space, and they have received numerous honors, including being selected as “one of the best jazz shows of 2003” by All About Jazz NY and K. Leander Williams in Time Out New York raves that Anat is “a huge talent in the making.” With her charming personal touch and our intimate atmosphere, Anat’s concerts at the Puffin are always a special occasion.

ART OPENING: Humanity Survives: Renewal and the Holocaust
This exceptional exhibit brings together established artists, David and Agnes Adler and Marion Sznajderman with local artists and authors, united by their common background as children who survived the Holocaust. Through the power of their art, they share their humanity, renewal, and hope for the future with works in a variety of moods, media and styles that express a profound understanding of being alive. The opening reception offers a rare opportunity to meet and engage with the artists and authors, and features previews of musician/director Deborah Thurlow’s new film based on interviews of exhibition participants and pianist Carolyn Enger’s upcoming concert featuring Israeli composer Ben-Haim’s Five Pieces for Piano.
Free and open to the public.
Exhibition can be viewed Mon-Fri, 1-5 p.m. or by appointment through Friday, December 4 or 11.

WORLD MUSIC: David Glukh Klezmer Ensemble
Astonishing classical trumpeter, David Glukh, returns to the Puffin with his critically acclaimed quintet from NYC for a special engagement. The quintet's performance will include traditional Klezmer music along with special “fusions” between klezmer and other musical traditions of the world (Irish, Gypsy, Classical, Jazz, and more), as well as several pieces by Mordechai Gibertig, an important composer who perished in the Holocaust.

WORLD MUSIC: Israeli’s Abroad and Friends
Puffin favorite Israeli musicians Uri Sharlin (accordian) and Avi Avital (mandolin) bring friends: Grammy-winning trumpeter Frank London (Klezmatics), master percussionist Shane Shanahan (Yo Yo Ma’s Silk Road), and singer and award-winning cantor Magda Fishman. They bring an exciting new program that explores the musical tradition of Eastern European Jews through original compositions, Early 20th Century classics, Yiddish folk songs, and music from the Jewish ghettos.
