Sam Armstrong
English Pianist Sam Armstrong has performed across the United Kingdom, France, Italy, Portugal, the Netherlands, Israel, Hong Kong, Japan, Taiwan, China and the USA in such venues as London’s Royal Festival Hall, Merkin Hall in New York and Sogakudo Hall in Tokyo. He has also performed chamber music at IMS Prussia Cove and the Ravinia Festival in Chicago. His performances have been broadcast on BBC Radio, French Television, Radio New Zealand, Radiofusau Portugesa and WQXR New York.
Mr Armstrong has been a major prizewinner in national and international competitions including the Beethoven Society of Europe Competition in London and the Porto International Piano Competition in Portugal. He was also a laureate in the Epinal International Piano Competition in France and was winner of the Martin Richardson Memorial Award from the Philharmonia Orchestra/ Martin Musical Scholarship Fund, as well as other awards from the MBF Music Education Fund, the Wingate Foundation and the Goldsmith Foundation.
He is studying at Mannes College of Music in New York, where he is currently the only student of Richard Goode. He previously studied with Helen Krizos for several years at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester, England and also worked with John O’Conor in Dublin. In masterclasses and private lessons he has worked with Leon Fleisher, Menahem Pressler, Pierre-Laurent Aimard, Stephen Hough and Rostropovich.
Recent engagements include solo recitals at St Martin-in-the-Fields in London and at Steinway Hall in New York. Future plans include chamber music recitals in the United Kingdom and in Paris, as well as a solo recital tour of the Netherlands and Eastern Europe including a debut recital at the Amsterdam Concertgebouw.
Sam is winner of the 2008 Nadia Reisenberg Piano Competition.
