Intersections: Connecting Reproductive and Environmental Justice Through Storytelling

On September 6th, we explored the connections between reproductive and environmental justice, illuminated by storytelling. The evening included a performance by New York City theater company ReproEco and a conversation with Abortion Conversation Projects' Executive Director Trae Banuelos. 

We began by discussing the origins of ReproEco with Cindy Cooper. Playwright Alinca Hamilton then introduced her short play “Always Never Really Here,” about a mother and daughter facing the harsh realities of living without clean running water in the verifiably real town of Sand Branch, Texas. The play was read by Hamilton herself, as well as Gena Bardwell, directed by Lorca Peress. We then heard from Trae Banuelos, Reproductive Justice consultant and executive director of the Abortion Conversation Projects about the connections between art and activism. We ended the evening with an audience Q+A and discussion.
