Picturing My Climate Future
What does climate change look like through the eyes of the next generation? The PBS short documentary My Climate Future answers that question by following high school students as they document with their cameras and smartphones the world they see—and the future they hope to create.
Young people have effectively been marginalized in the national conversation on climate change. Yet they have the most at stake—while not causing the problem in the first place.
The documentary portrays students across America examining environmental challenges in their own communities. Their images and reflections reveal optimism superseding anxiety, connecting local experiences to one of the defining issues of our time.
Rather than focusing on political debate, My Climate Future centers on authentic youth perspectives, creativity, and practical solutions. The students’ photographs become a catalyst for conversations about resilience, stewardship, innovation, and civic engagement, demonstrating how visual storytelling can foster understanding across generations.
With compelling imagery and an uplifting tone, the film offers viewers a fresh and personal look at climate change while showcasing the power of participatory photography to promote viewpoints that are too often overlooked. My Climate Future encourages audiences not only to see today’s challenges differently but also to imagine—and help build—a better tomorrow. Community-focused and nonpartisan, the documentary encourages dialogue and education across diverse audiences.
