Welcoming Our New Volunteer

August 1, 2022

A note from Puffin Executive Director Gladys Miller-Rosenstein

Dave Chalek and Shari Cruz have offered their time and efforts to volunteer both for the Teaneck Creek Conservancy and the Puffin Foundation. They have pulled weeds from our new garden at the Outdoor Classroom. Additionally they’ve replanted a native Dogwood tree next to the Pete Seeger State. They’ll begin refurbishing the labyrinth once they park reopens.

How lucky we are to have their expertise, efforts, and interest! Dave and Shari have their own landscaping business Sprout Farms and Garden and are Teaneck residents. Thank you to both Dave and Shari for joining us!

A Note from Sprout Farms’ owner Dave Chalek

Sprout Farms and Gardens has partnered with the Teaneck Creek Conservancy to help
support the park restoration project. Sprout is a local family run landscape design,
build and horticultural care company. Traditional American landscapes seldom
prioritize the ecosystem. The approach at Sprout is different. Sprout’s backyard
farms, flower gardens and outdoor living spaces are designed with aesthetics,
sustainability, and biodiversity in mind. Sprout’s mission is to enhance personal
ecosystems by attracting pollinators that help keep the flower and vegetable gardens
blooming bountifully, along with local birds to help the area ecology.
Since 1999, owner and lead designer, Dave Chalek has worked in the field of
Horticulture. The business is run with his wife, Shari Cruz right here in Teaneck.
The Sprout team are active members of the New Jersey Landscape Contractor
Association, the New Jersey Nursery and Landscape Association, the New York
Environmental group, Greenpeace and NPR.
